The PEOPLE’S BLOG
This originator, Warren Avery, will present the First – general Blog – of a recent experience of his (being Black in America) – that he’s sure has been similarly mirrored among his brothers and sisters
Yeah, a couple years back, the COVID Pandemic and economy had the world on the edge and seemingly on the brink, Now, consider, us Black folks, with not only our daily dose of racism, but we now that had to live through seeing our brother George Floyd snuffed to death – repeatedly on the news for an extended period.
Ok, Let me get to my own disturbing and traumatic (racially profiled) experience. Now, this afternoon I happened on a quick shopping trip to a department store. Now, pretty much, as soon as I stepped into this all White sales team store, I could feel security tailing me. But, it didn’t phase me, as I’d long had accepted such as a way of life. I’m an African American male, so it goes with the territory. But, now, middle aged, you’d think, I wouldn’t pose the same (shop lifting) risk. I know, right, but not to them (the gate keepers) So, anyway I finally made it to the checkout counter with my several items.
Gazing at my items, I looked in my wallet, to find I only had a $100 dollar bill, that could cover it – and my mind automatically flipped to George Floyd, trying to use a $20 bill and subsequently losing his life. Yes, this was indeed a trigger moment, even a mirror moment – panic – sweat – life flashing before me!
